every month, i plan a theme for my bullet journal. August’s theme happens to be an all-black floral theme with some kraft paper around it. for one of the spreads, i look for a quote to stamp on for the month. this time’s pinterest search led me to a quote from the famous painter Claude Monet, and it quite struck me!
“Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.”
- Claude Monet
it was ironic to associate such a quote with the all-black theme that i was going for, but that really got me thinking. as an artist, wherever i look around, i'm always noticing how the colour of everything is so fascinating and perfect, how each light and shadow sits upon the subject, how beautifully was the nature around us created by whomever.
but at the same time, these colors help me expressing the torment i may feel inside me, through paint tubes and brush strokes…
how one thing that brings you joy can hurt you equally enough if you stay too far away from it. that’s the paradox of life for you. don't we all feel a certain way when we find a quote or a poem online and it just strikes us; this was that quote for me.
a mundane task could lead you to question life, at the right place, right time.
with the recent success of my abstract painting video, i realised how simple colours can be an extension and expression of me. all it took for me to think more about it was finding a quote online..
do you have a quote that has recently made you think twice, or a quote you always live by? share it with me, in the comments!
dearly,
daksha.
